How to prepare and dilute samples for accurate results

Duration: 3:01

Proper sample preparation is essential for accurate enzymatic testing with Vintessential™ kits.

All kits use absorbance spectroscopy, which works within a linear concentration range. When absorbance approaches 1.8 AU, results become non-linear and signal is lost in noise — meaning dilution is required.

During vintage, analytes such as:

✔ Malic Acid
✔ Glucose and Fructose
✔ Primary Amino Nitrogen (PAN)
✔ Ammonia

May exceed the measurable range.

✔ Staying within the measurable absorbance range is critical for maintaining analytical accuracy.

General guidance:

✔ Malic Acid should be below 0.4 g/L in the cuvette
✔ Vintage samples may require 1:10 or 1:20 dilution
✔ Finished wines often require only 1:2
✔ Refer to the dilution fact sheet for preparation guidance

Red wines rarely need decolourisation. PVPP can be used if required, but dilution is usually sufficient.

Grape juice, ferments and finished wines can all be tested — with correct preparation.

“Dilute correctly. Stay in range. Get reliable results.”
